MMS March Review + April Preview
Posted on 04/06/2024
Major Events + Celebrations:
The month started with Parent-Teacher Conferences. Thanks to all who were able to attend. Our staff appreciated the opportunity to connect with families and continue to build a partnership to support our scholars' learning.
On March 20, MMS hosted the D87 Math Olympiad. Thank you to Ms. Baren, Ms. Grave, Mr. Parra, and Mr. Jacobson for coaching both MacArthur and Sunnyside Math Teams. MacArthur individuals placed in the top 3 in nearly every event. Special congratulations to the MMS 7th Grade Team for their victory over Northlake in the Jeopardy Challenge portion of the competition.
On March 20, 21, 22, in partnership with Scholastic, MMS scholars were able to 'Book Shop' for a free book to add to their home library. This is the 3rd opportunity that scholars have had to 'Book Shop', there will also be opportunities in both April and May to add to their home libraries. We encourage parents/guardians to ask scholars about the book they select and remind scholars that they should be reading 30 minutes independently each school-night.
On March 20, 21, 22, during Advisory, each grade-level attended a March 5-Star Assembly to celebrate academic achievements and positive citizenship. Many scholars reached the 250 (3750 minutes read!) and 500 (7,500 minutes read!!) Step Benchmarks for Reading Practice and had significant achievement in passing iReady MyPath lessons. The Ladies' Volleyball Team was also celebrated for their teamwork and successful season. The next 5-Star Assemblies will be held after the conclusion of rotation 5.
